Nintendo Switch Rentals Coming to Redbox

Physical movie rentals are dead. Streaming services are everywhere and the ease of online rentals when it comes to movies has negated the need for physical rentals. Heck, even my local public library has new releases free of charge to borrow. Video games and rentals are two peas in a pod. Some of my fondest childhood memories are visiting the local rental store and choosing between Magic Johnson’s Fast-break and Snake Rattle N’ Roll with my brother. It saddens me to realize this is an experience my daughter’s will never have.

Thankfully, Redbox recently expanded its rental options to include Nintendo Switch titles in select markets. At this time, Nintendo Switch cartridges are available in Albany, GA, Boise, ID, Chicago, IL, Colorado Springs, CO, Denver, CO, El Paso, TX, Eria, PA, Eugene, OR, Laredo, TEX, Greenwood-Greenville, MS, Macon GA, Marquette, MI, Meridian, MS, Mobile, AL, Nashville, TN, Odessa-Midland, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Portland, OR, Reno, NV, Richmond-Petersburg, VA, Salt Lake City, UT, San Antonio, TX, Seattle, WA, Springfield, MO, Traverse City, MI, Tula, OK, Yakima, WA. The Switch games will cost as much as other games, $3/day or $7/3days.

Titles listed on Redbox.com include Team Sonic Racing, Mortal Kombat 11, Just Dance 2019, Trials Rising, Yoshi’s Crafted World, Super Mario U Deluxe, Super Smash Bros, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu, Sports Party, Megaman 11, Dragon Ball Z Fighter, Legendary Fishing, NBA 2k19, Sonic Mania, Hotel Transylvania 3 Monsters Overboard, Crash Bandicoot N’sane Trilogy, Mario Tennis Aces, Owlboy, South Park Fractured, but Whole, Mario Rabids Kingdom Battle, LA Noire, Monster Supercross, NBA 2k18, Sonic Forces, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Pokken Tournament DX, Splatoon 2 and Lego Ninjago.

I personally couldn’t be more excited for this. There are a lot of Switch titles I’m curious about, but I certainly don’t have the time or money to play everything I’d like. As soon as the Switch titles reach my geographic region I will give it a try. Video game rentals have been a thing for a while at Redbox for PS4 and Xbox One and given the fact that the Switch is one of the best selling consoles of all time it is surprising to me it took this long.
