The Alliance of American Football heads into its fifth week of play with important interconference games on tap in all four matchups.
Week five gets underway on TNT on Saturday afternoon when The Orlando Apollos (4-0), The Alliance’s only remaining undefeated team, visit The Birmingham Iron (3-1) at 2:00 PM ET in a matchup between the league’s top-ranked offense and defense at Legion Field Stadium. Coach Spurrier’s Apollos lead the league in both scoring (29.5 points per game) and total offense (385.5 yards per game), while Coach Lewis’ Iron rank first in scoring defense (8.3 points allowed per game) and total defense (265 yards allowed per game).
At 8:00 PM ET on Saturday night, The San Diego Fleet (2-2) play host to The Salt Lake Stallions (1-3) at San Diego County Credit Union Stadium on NFL Network. The Fleet are unbeaten at home and look to keep their strong ground attack going as running back Ja’Quan Gardner leads the league with 287 rushing yards.
The weekend continues on Sunday when The Memphis Express (1-3) travel to Atlanta to take on The Legends (1-3) as both teams look to stay hot following their first wins of the season last week. The game, which is on CBS Sports Network at 4:00 PM ET, features former college foes, Atlanta quarterback Aaron Murray and Memphis quarterback Zach Mettenberger. In their last head-to-head meeting, Murray’s Georgia Bulldogs topped Mettenberger’s LSU Tigers 44-41 as the two quarterbacks combined for eight touchdowns and 670 passing yards in their final collegiate season in 2013.
Week five concludes on NFL Network on Sunday night as The Arizona Hotshots (2-2) welcome The San Antonio Commanders (2-2) to Sun Devil Stadium at 8:00 PM ET. The Commanders defeated the previously-unbeaten Iron in week four, punctuated by running back Kenneth Farrow II’s Alliance-record 142 rushing yards, earning him Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance
