While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate dominated the conversation of holiday must-haves for the Nintendo Switch, there’s a lot to be excited for looking into 2019. Whether hunting ghosts or brawling is your cup of tea, everyone is being served something in 2019.
5. Pokemon Generation 8
With the announcement of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, the Pokemon Company also announced a core RPG for the beloved series would be coming to the switch in 2019. With Let’s Go, players saw some major changes to gameplay that the series really hadn’t seen before. While these were well-received by most players when the games were finally available, the uncertainty caused a lot of die-hard Pokemon fans to look past Let’s Go, waiting for the core title coming in 2019. However this title shapes up, some of the more popular features like Pokemon in the overworld, or being able to take monsters out of their Pokeball are likely to be present in Generation 8 of the Pokemon RPG series.
4. Luigi’s Mansion 3
The Luigi’s Mansion franchise, though widely celebrated, has few entries, with only the original Gamecube title and a title on the 3DS, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. While the third title in this franchise has been confirmed to be coming to the Switch in a Nintendo Direct, details are scarce. Certainly, this is a title to look forward to, as it can be expected that the joy cons will be creatively implemented in gameplay.
3. Yoshi’s Crafted World
This is a title that feels like it has been teased since the release of the Switch, but it is finally coming to the console in Spring of 2019. The game promises to be an inventive side-scrolling adventure, with players navigating a construction-paper crafted world with parallel paths, having players play through levels twice, with the second play-through revealing new puzzles from a different perspective than the first play-through. Plus, players will get to utilize Yoshi’s awesome ability of swallowing enemies and popping out eggs. Preorder Now
2. Mortal Kombat 11
A staple to the fighting game genre, Mortal Kombat 11’s entry into the Switch line-up is significant because it directly addresses the criticism that the Switch isn’t powerful enough to handle premium third-party titles. While relatively little is known about this title, the longstanding franchise is sure to pack a punch when it hits the Nintendo Switch. Preorder Now
1. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: Black Order
While this entry still has few confirmed details, there are plenty of reasons to get excited about this title. In previous installments of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance franchise, players would progress through the game, assembling a team of four from a fleshed-out roster of favorite Marvel heroes, earning attribute points and leveling up heroes, providing a really fun RPG element. Coupled with the fact that this is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it’s going to be a joy to assemble a dream team of heroes on the system. Preorder Now
Honorable Mention: New Animal Crossing
The upcoming Animal Crossing title did not make this list simply because so few details are known. It could be a really fun, inventive game, or just a casual expected entry into the franchise. Time will tell.
